The most influential figures in DeFi include Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum co-founder), Hayden Adams (Uniswap founder), Stani Kulechov (Aave founder), Robert Leshner (Compound founder), Andre Cronje (Yearn Finance), and Rune Christensen (MakerDAO founder). Who invented Ethereum?

Ethereum was co-invented by Vitalik Buterin, who published the original Ethereum whitepaper in 2013 at age 19. The network was co-founded by a group that also includes Gavin Wood, Joseph Lubin, Charles Hoskinson, Anthony Di Iorio, and others. The Ethereum mainnet launched in July 2015.

Bitcoin was created by Satoshi Nakamoto, an unknown individual or group who published the Bitcoin whitepaper in October 2008 and launched the network in January 2009. Satoshi mined the genesis block and corresponded with early contributors before disappearing from public view in 2010-2011. Their true identity remains unknown.

Uniswap was built by Hayden Adams, a mechanical engineer who taught himself Solidity after losing his job at Siemens. Inspired by a post by Vitalik Buterin on automated market makers, Adams created the first Uniswap contract in 2018 and launched it on Ethereum mainnet with a $65,000 grant from the Ethereum Foundation.
